Former Gor Mahia winger Samuel Onyango met with Cabinet Secretary Owalo in Nairobi where they discussed past achievements and the future of Kenyan football.

Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy, Eliud Owalo, had an engaging meeting with former Gor Mahia winger and Kenyan football sensation Samuel Onyango.

The meeting, which took place on Wednesday, was not just a gathering of two prominent figures but a celebration of Kenyan talent and achievement.

Samuel Onyango, who recently parted ways with Zambian Super League side Kabwe Warriors by mutual agreement, joined the club in October 2022 after moving from his long-time team, Gor Mahia.

His absence from the Wednesday lineup, where Kabwe Warriors clinched a 1-0 victory against Trident FC, had sparked curiosity among fans about his whereabouts.

This meeting with Owalo not only quelled fans' concerns but also highlighted Onyango's significant contributions to Kenyan football.

"Caught up with the great Kenyan footballer, Samuel Onyango, today in my office. A former Harambee Stars winger, we also reminisced about his Gor Mahia days before diving into the excitement around the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations," Owalo wrote in a statement post-meeting.

Onyango's journey has been nothing short of inspirational. Joining Gor Mahia in November 2017 from Ulinzi Stars, the 2010 champions, he was the first signing for English tactician Dylan Kerr.

His tenure at Gor Mahia was marked by phenomenal success, as he lifted three Football Kenya Federation Premier League titles (2017/18, 2018/19, and 2019/20) with K'Ogalo.

His last appearance for Kabwe Warriors was on December 9 in a match against Mutondo Stars.

Kabwe Warriors, his current team, was also home to former Kariobangi Sharks forward Harrison Mwendwa until July 2022.

Furthermore, at Kabwe, Onyango played alongside Ugandan midfielder Hashim Sempala, his former teammate at Gor Mahia.
