Former Gor Mahia midfielder Enock Wanyama has broken his silence on what led to his emotional departure from the club.

Wanyama has shed light on the circumstances that saw him leave K’Ogalo despite being part of their title-winning squad.

The midfielder joined Gor Mahia during the January 2024 transfer window and was part of the team that clinched the 2023/24 FKF Premier League title under Jonathan McKinstry.

However, despite being a member of the championship-winning squad, he struggled for playing time.

With McKinstry’s departure, Wanyama’s situation worsened, as he found himself further down the pecking order.

His fate was sealed in the January 2025 transfer window when he was among four Gor Mahia players axed in a squad overhaul.

Following his exit, Wanyama penned a heartfelt message expressing his gratitude but remained silent on the details behind his departure—until now.

Speaking on the Zoza Podcast, on YouTube Wanyama revealed the moment he realized his time at Gor Mahia was up.

"We had agreed on mutual consent. Even when they called me into the office, they were surprised. They asked, ‘Wanyama, even all the four goalkeepers have played, but you haven’t?’ I didn’t even know how to answer. But I knew day in, day out, I was training hard to get a chance," he explained.

Despite the lack of game time, Wanyama cherishes his league-winning medal and the experience he gained at Gor Mahia.

"The medal is good for my CV, but I wanted to keep wearing the green shirt. I earned my medal under McKinstry. I knew he already had a winning team and wouldn’t mess with that. When I came in, I found that they were aiming for an unbeaten season. Though I didn’t play much, I deserved my medal for my contributions to the team," he added.

Looking ahead, Wanyama remains optimistic about his football future despite not being contracted to any team at the moment.

"All I know right now is I’m training. I’m free at the moment, training and keeping fit. I know something will come."

His departure from Gor Mahia may have been unexpected, but Wanyama remains determined to continue his career and prove his worth wherever he lands next.
