Kenya Police kicked of their FKF Cup defense with a 3-0 over National Division Two league side Superior Hotel on Sunday.

Former AFC Leopards striker Boniface Ambani has expressed confidence in Kenya Police FC's ability to defend their FKF Cup title and secure a spot on the continental stage once again.

The FKF Premier League (FKFPL) leaders began their title defense in emphatic fashion on Sunday, securing a commanding 3-0 victory over Superior Hotel.

Mohammed Bajaber netted a brace before David Irishura sealed the win with a third goal, propelling the law enforcers into the round of 32.

Ambani believes Police have what it takes to replicate last season’s success and retain their title.

“They are the current title holders, and that tells you they will be thirsty to go for it again this season… I am definitely sure they will challenge for this title with all they have in store,” Ambani was quoted as saying by Citizen Digital.

Kenya Police FC clinched the 2024 FKF Cup after a dramatic final against KCB, triumphing 8-7 in post-match penalties.

The match, which ended goalless after regulation and extra time, saw goalkeeper Patrick Matasi score the decisive penalty, earning Police a coveted spot in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Last season, FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia joined them on the continental stage.

Ambani emphasized that the FKF Cup remains the shortest and most direct route to securing a place in CAF competitions.

“As I said, this is normally the shortest way to the continental stage, and one must prepare very well. There are only four matches ahead, and if you reach the final and win, it’s as simple as that—you are in the CAF Confederation Cup,” he noted.

Kenya Police FC currently leads the FKF Premier League standings, fending off fierce competition from Tusker FC and defending champions Gor Mahia.

This gives them two pathways to the continenatal stage, should they maintain their position and clinch the league title, earning automatic qualification to the CAF Champions League.

With two potential routes to continental football Kenya Police remains a formidable force in the league and cup competitions.

Their determination to secure a spot in CAF competitions adds an extra layer of motivation as they continue their campaign in both domestic tournaments.
