Nottingham Forest's loss to Leeds has raised a lot of questions regarding the future of their manager Steve Cooper but the board has given their backing to the Welsh man.

Leeds United defeated Forest 2-1 on Tuesday. As a result, they now occupy the 17th spot in the Premier League standings, just one goal above the drop zone. Nonetheless, Nottingham Forest have supported their manager Steve Cooper despite the terrible performance, but "results and performances must improve immediately."

Forest statement on Cooper

Forest have not won in their last eight games which has been a subject of rumour on Steve Cooper's future at the club, but Forest has stepped out to say he has their support.

Cooper became Forest's manager in September 2021, and in his first season, he led them to the Premier League for the first time since 1999. During the summer of last year, he spent more than £160 million on 29 players.

In a statement released, Marinakis said: "No one denies that our club is in a difficult position in the Premier League.

"But we wish to end the speculation and the false and disruptive reporting in the media to confirm that Steve Cooper remains our manager at Nottingham Forest.

"We have all been disappointed with recent performances and it is very clear that a lot of hard work needs to be done to address this urgently."

Cooper gets Forest backing

In October, Cooper agreed to a new deal at the City Ground through 2025 with the club in last place in the standings after eight games.

Still speaking, Marinakis said: "There can be no time for distractions, rumours and speculation" and that Cooper and his players need "hard work, determination, a commitment".

When asked about his position following the defeat at Elland Road, Cooper said, "I always think of the greater good of the football club.

"Any sort of worry, disappointment or frustration I'm feeling right now is the fact that Forest have lost a game they could have done so much better in."

This weekend, Nottingham Forest will visit Villa Park, where Steve Cooper will be hoping his club can return to winning ways and avoid falling into the relegation zone.

In other news, Leicester City are in the market for a new manager after sacking Brendan Rodgers following a poor string of results that leaves them second-to-bottom in the Premier League table.
