Arsenal loanee Folarin Balogun has hinted that he might be ready to drop his England ambitions and represent another country at international level
Super Eagles-eligible forward Folarin Balogun has dropped a hint on his international future after reacting to being snubbed in the latest England squad to face Italy and Ukraine by posting a cryptic message on his Instagram account.
Balogun misses England squad despite Ligue 1 form
Balogun has been in exceptional form in Ligue 1 with Reims, leading the French side’s scoring with 16 goals in 26 appearances, making him the joint-third highest goal-scorer in the French top division.
He is only three goals behind French superstar Kylian Mbappe and had hoped that his performances would be enough to earn him a place on England’s 26-man team for the EURO 2024 qualifiers, but England manager, Gareth Southgate, had other ideas.
With Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, and Ivan Toney in great form, Southgate decided that there was no place for Balogun in the final roster, and this has not sat well with the Arsenal loanee.
Balogun sends cryptic message on Instagram
Balogun took to his Instagram story to show his disappointment at being left out, with an image that read, “In life, go where your[sic] appreciated.”
There would be no prizes for guessing who or what situation Balogun’s message was intended for, and if the rumour mill is right, this could spell the end of Balogun waiting for an England cap, and could be the perfect opportunity for the Super Eagles to snap him up.
Balogun is spoilt for choice as to who to represent at the international level having played for the USA by virtue of being born there while also being eligible to play for Nigeria through his parents.
If his England career does not pan out, he could always represent one of the countries that are powerhouses in their own respects.
