Football Kenya Federation is set to hold for a National Executive Committee Meeting days after a section of its members sought FIFA’s invention over various constitutional violations

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has called for a National Executive Committee Meeting this Saturday following an outcry from a section of its leadership in recent weeks.

In a notice dated December 29, 2023, and signed by FKF Secretary General Barry Otieno, the federation has invited its NEC members to the meeting to deliberate a number of issues, including the upcoming elections.

“Dear Executives, following consultations with the FKF President, you are hereby invited to a National Executive Committee meeting scheduled for Saturday, January 6, 2024. The meeting will take place at the FKF Goal Project offices, commencing at 10:00 am,” the letter read.

“The agenda of the meeting will be as follows. 1. FKF Activities, 2. FIFA Update, 3. FKF Election Matters, 4. FKF Financial Status, 5. AOB. Kindly, accept Dear Sirs, Madams, our utmost gratitude for your continued support.”

The notice was issued seven days after FKF NEC Member for Eastern region Muriithi Nabea sought FIFA’s intervention on what he termed violations to the federation’s constitution by the Nick Mwendwa-led team.

Nabea, who is also the chairperson of the federation's technical committee, highlighted violations of Articles 13, 29, and 38(1) of the federation’s constitution, pointing out the failure to hold both Annual General and NEC meetings, calling FKF out for engaging into contracts and appointing national team coaches without consultations and approval of the NEC.

He claimed that FKF had not convened a general meeting to table its budget and audited accounts in nearly two years and therefore lacked financial transparency.

North Eastern region NEC member Dabar Ahmedqadar also concurred with him while calling for an urgent meeting and it seems the federation has now caved in.

It remains to be seen if all the issues set to be deliberated will be thrashed out without any hiccups but the back and forth points to some divisions within the executive.
