Football Kenya Federation has provided details on the process leading to the appointment of the next Harambee Stars coach.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) vice president McDonald Mariga is leading the team that is assessing candidates for the Harambee Stars job.
FKF is in the process of identifying the next Harambee Stars coach and after speculation that the tactician might be unveiled this week, it appears the process is far from over.
The federation has confirmed that a number of candidates have applied for the position, which fell vacant following the resignation of Engin Firat two weeks ago, with the process of identifying the suitable one on.

Harambee Stars legend sets one condition that Kenya’s next coach must meet
The former Kenyan midfielder has given his opinion on what candidates seeking to replace Engin Firat as Harambee Stars coach need to have before being considered for the job.
“A team, led by my deputy Mariga, is in charge of identifying the next Harambee Stars coach. It will look at all the applications before making a final decision. We have received a number of applications but it is not a one-man show. It will be a collective decision,” FKF boss Hussein Mohammed said on Saturday.
Pressed over whether the federation is looking for a local or foreign coach, Mohammed was non-committal.
“There have been a lot of questions on whether we should go for a local or foreign coach but that is not important. What matters is that the team settles on a candidate that is qualified for the job because he will face a lot of scrutiny so his selection must be done carefully,” he added.
There have been reports that the federation is looking at a foreign coach who has experience on the continent and ready to work with a backroom team of local tacticians.
A number of local coaches have also openly expressed their interest in the job such as Ken Odhiambo, who served as one of Firat’s assistants, former Harambee Stars captain Musa Otieno, also a former national team assistant, as well as ex-Ushuru and FC Talanta tactician Ken Kenyatta.
Kenya U20 coach Salim Babu also has admirers among the football fraternity and all eyes will now be on the Mariga-led team as they narrow down on their target.
