FKF PL: Unbeaten Gor Mahia looking to pile more misery on struggling Nairobi City stars

The defending champions Gor Mahia will hope get back to winning ways after they dropped points for the first time this season in last week's midweek action stalemate against leaders KCB.

Gor Mahia will travel away to Nairobi City Stars at the Machakos stadium on Monday evening, seeking a return to winning ways and looking to pile more misery on bottom-placed Nairobi City stars in the final fixture of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF PL) match week 7.

The defending champions have started their campaign on a high note winning 2 of their opening fixtures in superb style, thrashing Mathare United 4-0 in their league opener fixture back in September before turning their attention to Posta Rangers on October 19, winning 3-0.

The Leonardo Neiva-coached side however received the first bump on their title defense, when they were held to a stalemate in last week's mid-week action against KCB at the Dandora stadium on Wednesday.

K'Ogalo huffed and puffed but could not find a breakthrough against the Bankers with Austin Odhiambo and Rooney Onyango coming extreme close to change the tide of the game but the leaders held on to share the spoils.

Despite their mid-week failings the defending champions are cruising and are expected to make quick work of a struggling City Stars.

In just 3 games to most FKF PL team's 7, the 21-time champions have scored an astounding 7 goals, a joint 4th highest in the league while conceding none, showcasing their prowess at both ends of the pitch.

For K'Ogalo, a win will see them raise their points tally of the season to 10, knocking arch rivals AFC Leopards who currently place 4th on the log, out of the top 4.

Such a result will see the K'Ogalo close the gap on leaders KCB to just 7 points, having 3 games in hand on the Bankers.

Neiva will however have to do with a thin squad, missing star midfielders Austin Odhiambo and Ronney Onyango as well as defenders Sylvester Owino, Alphonce Omija and Geofrey Ochieng who will most likely not feature, having been on international duty with the national team in South Sudan for African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.

Odhiambo who has been heavily involved in Gor's attack, netting in back-to-back fixtures against Mathare and Posta Rangers will be heavily missed alongside the returning Ronney Onyango who was momentarily exiled from the squad due to indiscipline issues and only just made his comeback in the stalemate against KCB.

Omija, Owino and Ochieng have featured in highly rotated back-line since that has kept out every team they have faced and will most certainly be another huge blow for the defending champions.L

City Stars will be looking to exploit those shortages when they welcome Neiva's charges at the Machakos stadium.

The Nairobi based-club have had a poor start to the season and find themselves placing on the bottom of the log, sitting on an abysmal 2 points in 5 matches played.

Having conceded 7 goals so far, it will be a tricky test to keep out the high-scoring defending champions despite their missing key attackers as Gor still posses threats in Gideon Bendeka and Bryson Wangai who have all found the back of the net this season.

The Leonard Odipo-coached side have found the back of the net just 3 times this season and it will be an even harder task to find their scoring boots against a yet to concede K'Ogalo side.
