Kakamega Homeboyz came into the fixture hoping to bounce back after their midweek loss to Gor Mahia, against a Shabana side with three wins on the bounce.

Kakamega Homeboyz overcame adversity to secure a crucial 2-0 victory over a determined Shabana side at the Mumias Complex on Sunday in the FKF Premier League (FKFPL).

The win marked their third of the season, lifting them out of the relegation zone and restoring confidence after their recent loss to Gor Mahia.

Homeboyz made four changes from their previous outing. Gospel Otieno returned to the lineup, replacing the injured Eston Omengo as Alvin Ochieng earned his first start of the season against his former club, while Ben Stanley and Pius Wangi were reinstated in the starting XI.

Shabana, on the other hand, made a single change, bringing Dimpol Omamo back to the starting lineup. Sam Kintu and Justine Omwando anchored the midfield, with talisman Mathew Tegisi leading the attack.

First Half

Homeboyz began strongly, asserting dominance early. In the 13th minute, John Omondi delivered a pinpoint pass to Moses Shumah, who coolly slotted the ball into the net to give the hosts the lead.

Shabana responded with efforts from Bryan Michira and Brian Marvin, whose pace troubled Homeboyz's defense but failed to yield an equalizer.

The home side doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute when Glen Otunga unleashed a stunning shot to register his first goal for the club, leaving Shabana chasing shadows.

As halftime approached, Shabana's Mathew Tegisi came close to pulling one back, but Homeboyz goalkeeper James Cleo produced a crucial save to maintain the two-goal cushion.

Second Half

Shabana made a bold move after the break, substituting Omamo for Shem Odinga in an effort to turn the tide. A second change followed as Dennis Okoth replaced Justine Omwando.

Their efforts were buoyed in the 63rd minute when Homeboyz’s Gospel Otieno received a red card for a second bookable offense, reducing the hosts to ten men.

Sensing an opportunity, Shabana skipper George Onyango led the charge, coming agonizingly close to scoring but only managing to hit the side netting.

Homeboyz responded with a triple substitution in the 70th minute, bringing on Ambrose Sifuna, Oliver Machaka, and Hansel Ochieng for Shumah, Stanley Omondi, and Pius Wangi. The changes provided fresh legs to help the hosts weather Shabana's relentless pressure and claim all three points to climb out of the relegation zone.
