The final list of eligible participants will be announced on Thursday 10 October ahead of the elections set for Saturday 7 December 2024.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Electoral Board has released new updates regarding preparations for the upcoming nationwide elections, scheduled for December 7, 2024.

In a statement signed by the Electoral Board chair, Hesbon Hansen Owilla, several key deadlines and processes were outlined, including dates for appeals, the release of the final participant list, and responses to concerns raised by clubs and aspirants.

As the elections approach, various stakeholders have voiced concerns, particularly regarding discrepancies in the recently published list of clubs and delegates. The board acknowledged these issues, noting that the revision of electoral laws has contributed to some of the challenges.

“The FKF Electoral Board has been receiving and handling disputes since Tuesday, October 2, as per the electoral calendar earlier shared. We have received numerous submissions which we have worked round the clock to resolve and address pursuant to the electoral code,” the statement read.

One of the main complaints involved the omission of certain clubs and delegates from the voters’ list. According to the board, this is a result of the revised eligibility criteria, which now requires clubs to have participated in two consecutive seasons out of the last five years.

The increase in eligible clubs and participants has caused branches to face overwhelming numbers, leading to the reported anomalies.

The Electoral Board confirmed that all petitions received up until now have been addressed. However, those unsatisfied with the outcomes have until Saturday, October 5, to submit their appeals, with hearings set to begin on Monday, October 7. The FKF Standing Appeals Board, chaired by Janet Katisya, is on standby to handle any unresolved disputes.

The final list of eligible participants for the elections will be published on Thursday, October 10, in preparation for the December elections.

Additionally, the board defended its decision to operate from Kandanda House, explaining that it is compliant with the electoral code and was ratified during the Special General Meeting (SGM) held on August 24, 2024.

In its concluding remarks, the board assured stakeholders of its commitment to ensuring that the election process would be free, fair, transparent, credible, and verifiable, emphasising that the elections are crucial for the growth and development of football in Kenya.
