Shabana thought they had equalised in stoppage time through Denis Okoth, but the referee controversially ruled the goal out after Austin Odongo was adjudged to have fouled Kakamega Homeboyz's Brian Eshianda in the build-up.

Moses Mudavadi's goal was enough to give Kakamega Homeboyz a 1-0 win over Shabana in an FKF Cup round of 16 clash that was overshadowed by a controversial refereeing decision towards the end of the match.

Shabana were denied a last-minute equaliser after the referee disallowed Denis Okoth’s goal after Austin Odongo was adjudged to have fouled Kakamega Homeboyz defender Brian Eshianda.

First half

Kakamega Homeboyz  looked lively in the opening stages of the game, and should have taken the lead in the 15th minute when Glet Otunga blazed the ball wide after getting on the end of a good cross by Kevin Amwayi.

Shabana could not heed to the warning, and Moses Mudavadi would finally put Abana Beingo into the lead, getting on the end of another dangerous left-footed cross by Amwayi, who had been set up nicely by Moses Shumah following a great turn-and-spin.

Shabana never looked likely to create anything, but nearly equalised in spectacular manner in the 30th minute. Receiving a pass from James Mazembe, Dennis Oketch, who was hugging the left flank, did well to cut inside with the ball, before releasing a testing shot that zipped across Homeboyz custodian Ibrahim Wanzala and wide.

Shabana got another opportunity in the 35th minute, with Elvis Ochieng shooting the ball well wide after Keith Imbali did well to lay the ball off to him in the 35th minute, and they had work to do to bounce back from a losing position heading into the break.

Second half

Tore Bobe came out the livelier of the two sides after the break, and in the 53rd minute, were unlucky not to have equalised after Brian Michira hit the crossbar after cutting inside well from the left wing.

The game started becoming end to end, with both sides taking turns to launch waves of attack at each other’s boxes.

In the 58th minute, Shabana goalkeeper Maxwell Mulili was fortunate not to be sent off, as he was shown a yellow card for fouling Henry Omolo after he had rushed off his line to clear the ball.

Shabana start threatening after the break, and in the 53rd minute, they were unlucky not to equalise after Brian Michira’s effort hit the crossbar.

After managing to survive a period of sustained pressure by Shabana, Homeboyz missed a good chance to consolidate their lead in the 72nd minute, with Otunga missing yet another glorious opportunity to put them 2-0 up after hitting the ball just over the bar after Omolo had done well to find him in the box.

Omolo himself would miss a glorious chance to extend their lead after taking advantage of a defensive lapse and Mulili’s wayward positioning but his attempted lobbed shot would sail wide off target.

In stoppage time, Shabana thought they had equalised through Denis Okoth, but the goal was ruled off after Brian Eshianda was fouled by Austin Odongo, which created a tense moment, as what was meant to be four-minutes worth of stoppage time ended up being 113 minutes, when the game resumed.

Although Shabana nearly equalised again from a freekick they won from the resulting freekick, they could not equalise, and in the end, the game ended in favor of the hosts.
