FKF President Nick Mwendwa has clarifiied the situation regarding Junior Starlets' participation at the U-17 Women's World Cup amidst the situation regarding their KCSE exams this year.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa has addressed concerns regarding the Junior Starlets’ participation in the upcoming U-17 Women’s World Cup, which coincides with their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
The tournament is scheduled to take place in the Dominican Republic from October 16 to November 3, overlapping with the KCSE exams set for October 23 to November 24, 2024.
This overlap has posed a significant dilemma for the players, who are currently in their final year of secondary school. With the global tournament approaching, the girls may have to choose between their academic commitments and the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete on the world stage.

Kenya are set to participate at the U-17 Women's World Cup for the first time ever, and Serenge has made up her mind.
Earlier this week, Pulse Sports had reported that the federation held talks with the Ministry of Education regarding the potential dispensation of special exams for the boys.
Now, Mwendwa has provided an update on the situation as the tournament edges closer and closer.
“I want to assure you here that every girl that was part of that team that qualified for the World Cup wants to participate in the tournament,” Mwendwa stated on Friday after the FKF awards gala.
“Infact, some of them have told me that they are more than happy to repeat next year, that is how serious it is.

World Cup or KCSE exams? Junior Starlets face tough choices after historic achievement
A number of Junior Starlets players face a huge dilemma as they will be required to sit KCSE exams at a time when the FIFA U17 World Cup will be taking place in the Dominican Republic.
“We have engaged the ministry and asked them if we can organise a special exam for them, but the ministry has said that when exams take place, they have to be done by every student at the same time.”
Mwendwa has revealed that the girls are willing to repeat next year just to have the opportunity to participate at the competition, which promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them.
“We are faced with this choice, whether to tell them they have no chance of participating in the tournament, or do their exams next year.
“I think the issue is solved. They will be coming to camp on 18th August. They will train here before going to Spain for the Four Nations tournament, and from there, fly out to the Dominican Republic for the World Cup.”

The World Cup will be taking place in October, but the KCSE exams will be taking place in November, which is likely to cause problems as most of the team consists of form four students.
While receiving her Sports Personality for the month of June award by the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) last year, Marion Serenge revealed she was already willing to repeat form four next year if it meant she got a chance to take part at the tournament.
It is seemingly the solution many other players in the squad have decided to pursue.
