Super Eagles head coach Finidi George has reportedly bid farewell to Enyimba players and staff.

According to multiple reports, Super Eagles coach Finidi George has informed Enyimba players and staff that he will be departing the role. An official statement from the Peoples’ Elephants is expected to be released soon.

Finidi leaves Enyimba

Following the exit of Jose Peseiro after a successful AFCON, the Nigerian Football Federation named former Super Eagles legend and assistant coach Finidi George as new boss.

Finidi held the head coach role at Enyimba before this announcement, a position he has occupied for the past three years.

The former Real Betis winger was named Enyimba coach on June 11, 2021. He could only manage a seventh-place finish in the 2021-22 campaign; the following season, however, he led the Aba-based club to their ninth NPFL triumph.

Following his announcement as Super Eagles boss on April 29, his exit from his role as Enyimba boss has been anticipated.

Per multiple reports, including Brilla FM, the 53-year-old has said farewell to his players, and his assistant Olanrewaju Yemi will take over as interim head coach for what's left of the campaign.

Olanrewaju took to X to wish Finidi farewell with the following message: “Working with you for the past two years has been fun and inspiring… thank you for all you do boss. I wish you the very best with ⁦@NGSuperEagles.”

Enyimba have yet to officially announce his departure, but a statement is expected soon.
