Federico Chiesa’s move to Liverpool this summer has sparked considerable interest, and recent insights from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reveal that the Italy international was once on Bayern Munich's radar before ultimately signing with the Reds.

Romano, in his exclusive interview with CaughtOffside, disclosed that Chiesa was offered to Bayern Munich earlier in the transfer window.

Despite Bayern's interest, the club decided to pursue a different type of winger, eventually securing Michael Olise from Crystal Palace.

Romano noted that while Bayern appreciated Chiesa's talents, their focus was on signing a player with a different skill set, which led them to prioritize Olise instead.

“Bayern were offered the possibility of signing Chiesa in June,” Romano explained. “However, their top target was always a different kind of player. They appreciated Chiesa, but he did not fit the specific profile they were seeking at that time.”

Chiesa’s arrival at Liverpool, while not initially on the top of Bayern's list, has generated excitement among Reds fans. His previous performances at Juventus showcased his potential, and Liverpool’s acquisition is seen as a strategic move to bolster their squad depth.

Despite the competitive nature of Liverpool’s wide positions—with Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, and Diogo Jota already in place—Chiesa brings added quality and versatility.

Some supporters might question why a player who wasn’t Bayern’s top choice is now a Liverpool signing, particularly given Chiesa’s past injury issues.

However, Liverpool's decision to bring him on board may prove to be a savvy one. With a relatively low-cost deal, Chiesa offers valuable depth and competition within the squad, and his ability to make an impact when called upon could prove crucial as the season progresses.

The competition for starting spots is fierce at Anfield, and Chiesa will need to impress to secure a regular place in the starting XI.

Nonetheless, his signing represents a calculated risk for Liverpool, potentially rewarding them with a player capable of contributing significantly throughout the season.
