The Ghana Premier League champions have expressed their readiness for the CAF Champions League and are eager for a potential match against Kenya's Gor Mahia.

Ghana Premier League champions FC Samartex have declared their readiness to take on all challengers in the upcoming 2024/2025 CAF Champions League, expressing a particular interest in a first-round matchup against Kenya's Gor Mahia.

This statement comes on the heels of their monumental league victory, where a narrow 1-0 win over Bibiani GoldStars sealed their first-ever top-flight title.

In an exclusive interview, Samartex's General Manager, Edmund Ackah, shared his enthusiasm for the team's debut in Africa's most prestigious club competition.

"We are ready to play in the CAF Champions League. It's prestigious to us, and reaching the final would be a dream come true. We are passionate about football and are ever ready," Ackah told Pulse Sports Kenya.

Ackah further highlighted the club's proactive preparations ahead of the preliminary draw set for next month.

"We have a pre-season place and have been following this routine at the end of every season. We will beef up the squad with quality players as we have an academy-type model to sustain our success," he added.

The excitement around potentially facing Gor Mahia is not just about playing a formidable opponent but also reconnects Ackah with memories from the region.

"In the 2018-2019 CAF Confederation Cup, I was in Kenya when Asante Kotoko played against Kariobangi Sharks. It would be great to face Gor Mahia or any team from East Africa," he reminisced.

Gor Mahia, who recently clinched their 21st league title in the FKF Premier League, are no strangers to the pressures and prestige of African football, making them an enticing potential opponent for Samartex in the preliminary rounds slated for August 16 to 18.

Ackah's confidence in his team's readiness was palpable as he discussed their strategic approach to the competition.

"We are ever ready to play any team that we are drawn against. If you want to be champions, it is better to play against the best in the competition," he noted, emphasizing that facing high-caliber teams like Gor Mahia would only enhance their championship credentials.

Samartex's journey to the top of Ghanaian football has been nothing short of spectacular especially considering this new milestone was unlocked just a season after being promoted to the top flight.

The Timber Giants' success is a beacon of hope and pride for the Western Region, which has seen other clubs like Sekondi Eleven Wise, Hasaacas, and Medeama SC, last season's champions, claim the Ghana Premier League crown before.
