Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie has opened up about her recent experiences with the national team and backed her teammates to give her all in the World Cup Round of 16 match against England
Ahead of their crucial World Cup Round of 16 tie against England, Nigeria’s defender Michelle Alozie has spoken about her faith in the Super Falcons as well as her own status as a fan favourite.
Alozie reacts to being a fan favourite, Super Falcons progress
The right-back, who has been a consistent part of the Super Falcons’ team so far, has become a fan favourite for her performances with the national team and her stunning looks.
She was asked by an NFFTV reporter what it felt like to be one of the most-loved players on the team, and she replied that she was unfazed about being a favourite, saying, “I guess it’s pretty cool, I don’t really notice. I’m here just for the World Cup,” while she put her impressive performances down to being a Nigerian and the quality of her teammates, saying, “I think everything is coming back to me just being a Nigerian.
“I just have the pride, I have the passion, I have the fire, and I just bring that to everything I do on and off the field and the team just really brings out the type of player I am.”
The Houston Dash full-back also expressed her confidence in the Super Falcons to NFFTV, and hailed their progress at the World Cup so far, saying, “I always had faith in us. I think that we already played some top teams before we came to the World Cup and got a few results, and I think that [faith] only grew when we came into the group stage.
“So although we had the “group of death” I don’t think it really fazed us, and we were just really focused on each game as it came.
Super Falcons ready to give England ‘Everything’ in Round of 16 clash
Speaking ahead of the Super Falcons’ crucial World Cup round of 16 tie against England, Alozie noted that the team knows what to expect and are ready for the Lionesses test, having faced other difficult games to get to this stage.
“It is going to be a hard game, we’ve had hard games this whole entire time, starting with Canada, and so we expect nothing less.
“It’s obviously a knockout round, so it really is winner takes all. We’re ready to put up a battle, we’re ready to expect a battle from them and just give them everything that we have.
Alozie is expected to be in the Super Falcons lineup against England after starting all three of Nigeria’s games in the group stages.
The 26-year-old defender will be key in stopping England’s fearsome attack, which has produced eight goals in only three matches at this year’s World Cup, including a 6-1 rout of China in their most recent fixture.
