FA CUP: 3 reasons Manchester United will defeat Liverpool this weekend

One of football’s fiercest rivalries graces the FA Cup stage this weekend as Manchester United and Liverpool clash at Old Trafford.

There’s no doubt that the pressure is piling on Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag, and the FA Cup represents a final chance for the Dutchman to end an average season on a high.

For Jurgen Klopp, this allows him to keep chasing a historic quadruple as his farewell tour continues.

Depending on who you ask, Liverpool should be heavy favourites for this one, but we disagree, and here are three reasons why.

1. Liverpool’s injury and fatigue concerns

Liverpool eviscirated Sparta Prague 6-1 in the Europa League on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals.

That victory came at a cost, as they now come into this clash on the back of a tw0-day rest, with a squad ravaged by injuries.

While United have not been in great form, this is their best chance of beating Liverpool, especially at Old Trafford.

2. Manchester United’s home record

Klopp’s men have only lost 3 times to the Red Devils since 2016, but all of those defeats have come at Old Trafford.

We are not suggesting United will win based off the strength of home support, but that advantage could very well work in their favour as they’re unbeaten inside 90 minutes on their turf in this competition since March 2015.

3. Ten Hag fighting for his life

The rumours have been circulating for weeks that United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe will look to appoint a new manager at the end of the season.

To that effect, manager Erik ten Hag must fear for his job after what has been a deeply disappointing campaign. Perhaps the FA Cup could provide a silver lining. Win this, and he gets another chance, but a defeat here could seal his fate.
