The Harambee Stars winger came on as a substitute and tried to stretch Shamrock Rovers' defence, but his efforts ultimately were not enough to help them avoid another defeat.

Harambee Stars winger Adam Wilson showed determination in his brief appearance but couldn’t prevent The New Saints (TNS) from falling to Shamrock Rovers in their UEFA Europa Conference League clash on Thursday night.

Wilson, who was subbed on with just 12 minutes left, made an interception and a pass but had to focus primarily on defensive duties as TNS searched for a late equalizer at Tallaght Stadium, ultimately losing 2-1.

Wilson, on loan from Bradford City, has impressed domestically with six goals and one assist this season but is yet to earn his first cap for Kenya’s Harambee Stars, despite being called up for recent friendlies.

However, his cameo highlighted his commitment to aiding TNS as they battle through a challenging European campaign.

TNS started brightly, demonstrating their attacking capabilities by taking an early lead. In the 14th minute, Declan McManus forced a fine save from Shamrock goalkeeper Leon Pöhls with a deflected header.

The resulting cross from Ryan Brobbel found McManus, who set up Jordan Williams for a clinical first-time finish, putting TNS ahead 1-0.

Shamrock Rovers quickly responded. A clever flick from Neil Farrugia found Graham Kenny, who slotted it past TNS’s Connor Roberts midway through the first half.

Just before halftime, Shamrock capitalized on their momentum, as Darragh Burns delivered a precise cross to Dylan Watts, who finished at the far post to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.

The second half saw Shamrock Rovers dominate possession and push for a third goal. TNS, under pressure, had to defend resolutely, and although they kept the deficit to one, they couldn’t produce a comeback.

Shamrock’s superior goal-scoring attempts highlighted their control of the game and secured them a well-deserved victory.

With three games remaining in their group stage, TNS sit on three points and face challenging upcoming fixtures against Djurgårdens IF, Panathinaikos, and a trip to NK Celje in Slovenia.

While a play-off spot remains within reach, the night underscored the relentless demands of competing at this level in European football, testing TNS’s resilience as they aim to keep their campaign alive.
