Arsenal vs Liverpool: Bukayo Saka makes history, breaks Thierry Henry's record
At just 23 years and 52 days old, Bukayo Saka has broken Thierry Henry's legendary record for the Gunners.
Saka breaks Henry’s record
The 23-year-old missed the last two games due to injury; hence, his participation in the top-of-the-table clash against Liverpool was in contention. Mikel Arteta provided an optimistic update on Friday, and the England international was fit in time to host Arne Slot’s side.
Saka immediately showed why he has been sorely missed when he fired into the roof of the net to give the Gunners the lead inside the opening ten minutes. The goal was his 50th for the North London outfit, which helped him set a new record.
The two-time England Footballer of the Year became Arsenal’s youngest player to reach the 50-goal mark. He eclipsed the club’s record scorer, Henry, who reached the tally as a 24-year-old.
What Saka said
The Hale End graduate admitted that it was impossible to avoid association with Henry, as the former France international held a lot of the attacking record at the club.
"I try to keep the keepers guessing. I think it was a nice finish,” he told reporters after the game, per Sky Sports. “I haven't seen it back yet but it felt nice. He has every record, Thierry Henry, so it's nice but of course, you wanna win the game but I have to be happy with this.
“Everything is Thierry Henry-ish. If you score, it's Thierry Henry; if you assist, it's Thierry Henry. I'm feeling good. I felt I could finish the game but the gaffer took me off."
