Manchester City eased past Everton at Goodison park to move four points clear of Arsenal at the top of the table thanks to a masterclass from Ilkay Gundogan
Manchester City midfielder Ikay Gundogan played out of his skin as the Cityzens romped to a convincing 3-0 win over Everton to move four points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.
Gundogan scored two goals sandwichiching Erling Haaland’s 36th Premier League goal of the season, also assisted by Gundogan.
How it happened
Despite Everton fighting for their Premier League survival, there was little they could do to stop the onslaught of the reigning Champions.
The toffees defended as doggedly as you would expect from a team coached by Sean Dyche for all of 37 minutes before Gundogan broke the deadlock for the league-leaders.
Gundogan was at the heart of everything good for Manchester City against Everton, and just two minutes after giving the Cityzens a 1-0 lead, he assisted Haaland to double the lead.
And just like that, Everton found themselves two goals down going into the first half despite their staunch defense in the opening minutes of the game.
In the second half, Everton showed a bit more of their quality, but Manchester City made sure thoughts of a comeback were banished early, scoring after only six minutes of the restart to make it 3-0.
Gundogan scored his second goal of the night and his eighth goal of the Premier League season, making him Manchester City's third-highest goalscorer in the league this season.
With few chances to speak about in the second half for either team, the game ebbed to an expected result as Manchester City secured their 11th consecutive league win to move four points clear of Arsenal in second place.
With three games left for Manchester City and two for Arsenal, Manchester City could win their third Premier League title in a row if they win their game in hand which will leave them seven points ahead of the Gunners with six points to play for.
