Ronney Onyango has all but confirmed his departure from Gor Mahia with a heartfelt farewell, reportedly bound for Europe.

Gor Mahia’s dependable right-back, Ronney Onyango, has confirmed his departure from the club in an emotional farewell message, signaling the end of his tenure with the FKF Premier League giants.

Onyango, who has been linked with a move away for some time, is reportedly on the verge of joining Danish second-tier side Sogndal FC.

His exit follows a stint of trials with the club, after an earlier attempt to join Tanzania’s Singida Big Stars fell through.

While neither Gor Mahia nor Sogndal FC have officially confirmed the details of the transfer, the defender’s heartfelt message on Instagram sealed the nail on the coffin for his journey with the record champions.

"Dear Gor Mahia Family, saying goodbye is never easy, but I leave with a heart full of gratitude," Onyango expressed.

"Together, we lifted the FKFPL title, the Charity Shield Cup, and made memories I will cherish forever."

He went on to thank the club’s passionate fans for their unwavering support, his teammates for their camaraderie, and the coaches and staff for their dedication.

Onyango also sent his best wishes for the upcoming Mashemeji Derby against AFC Leopards, urging his former teammates to "go out there and make us proud."

During his time with Gor Mahia, Onyango played a crucial role on the right flank, helping the club secure its record-extending 21st league title in the 2023/24 season under former head coach Jonathan McKinstry.

His overlapping runs and defensive stability made him a key asset for K'Ogalo.

Gor Mahia, currently embroiled in a tight three-way title race with Tusker and Kenya Police, will now have to navigate the rest of the season without their versatile full-back.

Their next challenge comes in the form of the Mashemeji Derby against arch-rivals AFC Leopards at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.

As Onyango embarks on his next chapter in Europe, Gor Mahia fans will undoubtedly remember his contributions fondly, hoping that his move to Denmark will be the beginning of even greater success.
