Rashford and Weghorst both scored in Manchester United's win over Real Betis
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has spoken of his joy at seeing teammate Wout Weghorst end his 11-game goal drought to score his first-ever goal at Old Trafford in the Red Devils’ superb 4-1 UEFA Europa League win against Real Betis.
Rashford happy to see Weghorst score after all his hard work
Rashford and Weghorst were both on target for Manchester United as they claimed a significant win over Real Betis that puts them in the driver’s seat of their round of 16 tie against Real Betis, and the Englishman was full of praise for his Dutch counterpart, who finally lifted a huge weight off his shoulder.
Speaking after the match, Rashford was asked if the team was happy to see Weghorst score his first Old Trafford goal, to which he replied “Yeah, one hundred percent,” also adding, “He is a forward, he gets joy from scoring goals. As good as he works hard and does all the other stuff, he wants to score goals, so everyone is really pleased for him.”
Weghorst breaks Old Trafford duck against Real Betis
Weghorst had been plagued by a poor run in front of goal that had seen him fail to score in Manchester United’s last 11 games despite being a starter in the team and had endured immense criticism before and during the match against Real Betis.
He had already missed two big chances to get on the score sheet against Real Betis before he eventually found the back of the net in the 82nd minute with Manchester United’s fourth and final goal, and he celebrated wildly, showing the importance of the goal to him.
After breaking his Old Trafford duck, Manchester United fans will be hoping that Wghorst can embark on a scoring run as long as his drought run as they enter a critical part of the season where they will fight for every point or goal they can get to finish well in the three competitions they are currently fighting for.
