Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka were on hand to help the Three Lions continue their perfect start to their EURO 2024 qualifying campaign
England made it two wins from two games in their EURO 2024 qualifying campaign as they breezed past Ukraine to claim a comfortable 2-0 victory.
On the other hand, Ukraine were just kicking off their qualifying series with the game against England, and they started on a terrible note as they appeared miles apart from their English counterparts in the 2-0 loss.
How it happened
The game was decided by goals from North London’s biggest stars as a strike each from the white and red halves of the city was enough to see England past Ukraine as they continued their perfect start to qualifying.
England and Ukraine contested an open start to the game, with both teams seeing chances to take the lead.
However, the Three Lions gained control midway through the first half as the Ukraine threat waned and England grew stronger, with Harry Kane coming close to scoring with his effort n goal, but could only send his effort over the bar.
Not long after England started to get comfortable against Ukraine, the country's record goalscorer Harry Kane scored his 55th goal for the Three Lions after a brilliant cross from Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka found him unmarked in the box for a tap-in.
Saka soon went from provider to goalscorer as he doubled England's lead with a sensational effort from the edge of the box to make it 2-0 going into the break.
The second half was typical of Gareth Southgate's side defending a lead, as they took the sting out of the game, slowing things down to almost walking pace.
In the end, the Three Lions also had the best chances of the second half as well, despite barely trying, and they were good value for their win over their visitors on the night.
Routine win sends England top of qualifying group
The win leaves England top of the group with maximum points from two games after their earlier win over Italy.
The Three Lions are the only team to have played twice in the group and they have opened a healthy gap over the competition in what they hope will be a relatively comfortable group.
Ukraine will have to pick themselves up after the loss as they face another brutal qualifying campaign that includes games against Italy and North Macedonia.
