France defeated minnows Gibraltar 3-0 to go top of Euro 2024 qualification Group B.
Kylian Mbappe put all the controversy aside to play a starring role as France strengthened their grip on top spot in Group B by handing a sound beating to underdogs Gibraltar.
How it happened
Gibraltar must have known this was a tough task even before a ball was kicked. Ranked 201st by FIFA against the team ranked 2nd in the world, they were going to need a miracle.
Olivier Giroud put France in front after just three minutes, after being teed up from the right flank by Kingsley Coman.
Les Bleus continued to dominate and Kylian Mbappe soon doubled their advantage, cooly dispatching a spot-kick after a VAR intervention found Roy Chipolina to have handled in the box.
The second half was less exciting and the French should have been out of sight but missed several good chances.
They eventually found a third when Mbappé was unleashed down the left wing before crossing into the box, where substitute Aymen Mouelhi got his right boot to the ball, only to see it diverted into a gaping net.
