Maroons FC, one of the sides preparing for another campaign, have confirmed their player cleared out, many of them free agents, as the club opted not to renew their contracts.
But only re-joined the side to keep fit and as he awaits an improved offer from the club hierarchy.
The former Express FC assistant captain penned a six months deal with Maroons in January, scoring thrice and picking up as many Pilsner Man of the Match awards as he guided the Prisons side to a sixth-place finish last season.
On 10th July, Maroons confirmed the departure of six players, including Samson Kigozi, Brian Nkuubi, Noel Nasasira, and Brian Kayanja, whose loan deal expired at the end of last season and wasn’t renewed.
Head coach Mohammed Senfuma hopes to beef up his squad, especially the goalkeeper after their best player Simon Tamale moved to Rayon Sports in Rwanda.
In 2021, Abel Etrude guided the Red Eagles to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and CECAFA Kagame Cup titles under head coach Wasswa Bbosa.
The StarTimes Uganda Premier League is expected to get underway on 15th September. Still, the Maroons FC season will start earlier with the FUFA Super Eight tournament, which will run from the 4th to the 14th of August 2023.
