Manchester United looked destined to lose more points but they bounced back and sent Brentford home with nothing

Manchester United secured a crucial 2-1 victory against Brentford on Saturday, with manager Erik ten Hag attributing the team's second-half resurgence to a sense of "injustice" stemming from Brentford's controversial opening goal.

The match took a contentious turn when Brentford scored just before half-time, capitalizing on Matthijs de Ligt's temporary absence due to a head injury.

The Bees' Ethan Pinnock rose to head home from a corner, taking advantage of United's weakened defense. This goal, coming in the sixth minute of added time, left Ten Hag and his squad feeling aggrieved.

Reflecting on the incident, Ten Hag explained how the frustration fueled his players' performance after the break. "Pressure? Pressure is always there. We have to win every game, so when we are 1-0 down, we have to see how we turn this around," he stated. "We felt some injustice and we used this as fuel for the second half, and we increased the tempo, and we scored two great goals."

United emerged from the half-time break reinvigorated, displaying their best performance of the season.

Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund both found the net, turning the game on its head and securing a vital three points for the Red Devils.

When asked about the need for De Ligt to leave the field, Ten Hag expressed his disbelief at the decision, noting that the defender's injury was minor. "It didn’t change anything. It was dry blood," he remarked. "No one from us understood why he was sent off. I went over to Matthijs and asked ‘what’s wrong?’ He said, ‘just dry blood and I have to come off, so I don’t know why.’ Of course, there was a huge moment because Brentford is very good in corners, and when you then miss one of your best headers, they take benefit from it, then of course you are disappointed."

The win lifted Manchester United to 11th place in the Premier League, a much-needed boost after a rocky start to the season that has seen them collect only 11 points from their first eight matches. Ten Hag's side will look to build on this momentum as they aim to climb higher in the league standings.
