With his fifth goal of the season, Chukwuemeka Obioma is now the outright top scorer in the NPFL
Week 7 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) got underway on Saturday, with eight-time champions Enyimba, and struggling Nasarawa United picking all three points from their games.
For the People's Elephants, the win was their second victory away from home since they defeated Nasarawa United in Game week 1.
Nasarawa United themselves, were also winners on Saturday, ending a streak of six matches since the start of the 2023 season, without a victory.
Gombe United 1-2 Enyimba
Coming off a home win against El Kanemi Warriors in their previous fixture, George Finidi's side headed to the Pantami Stadium high on confidence.
The hosts, however, got the better start as a wonder volley by Taiye Yusuf on the right side of the box was enough to beat John Noble in Enyimba's goal. Enyimba responded 23 minutes later, with Elijah Akanni scoring off a freekick.
A dramatic end to the first half could have seen Yusuf put the hosts in front again, however, he missed a chance to do so following a penalty to Gombe United.
The second half then saw the People's Elephants seal the victory as Chukwuemeka Obioma scored his fifth goal of the season to go outright top of the scorers' charts and, end Gombe United's run of four matches without a defeat.
Nasarawa United 2-0 Kwara United
In Jos, Nasarawa United got their first win of the 2023 season following an excruciating run of five defeats and a draw.
Goals from the highly-experienced duo of King Osanga and Chinedu Ohanachom in the early moments of either half, were enough to give the Solid Miners reasons to break into tears of joy at the New Jos Stadium on Saturday.
While the victory might not mean much for Nasarawa United who remain at the base of Group A, the defeat in Jos could see Kwara United, drop into relegation places when other fixtures are played on Sunday.
