The Three Lions could be set for a managerial overhaul with the former Chelsea gaffer already in negotiations to become England boss
England looking for new manager
This development comes after England's disastrous Nations League defeat to Greece on Thursday, where the interim boss was roundly criticised for his tactics.
After the defeat by Greece, Carsley said that he would “hopefully be going back to the under-21s” and refused to give a definitive answer on whether he wanted the job permanently.
According to reports, Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, who is out of contract at the end of the season, remains England’s first choice to replace Gareth Southgate.
The three other men on the wishlist include former Chelsea head coaches Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter as well as Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe.
Carsley's final games in charge are November's Nations League games against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
