Harambee Stars have been dealt a major blow after Kenya Police midfielder Kenneth Muguna was ruled out of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
Muguna has been sidelined following a late fitness test, forcing the team to make a last-minute adjustment to their squad as they gear up to face South Sudan in the critical qualifiers.

Engin Firat has named final 24-man squad for crucial CHAN 2024 qualifying matches against South Sudan.
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced the news in an official statement, confirming that Muguna would not be traveling with the team.
“Midfielder Kenneth Muguna has been ruled out of the squad after failing a late fitness test,” the FKF disclosed.
Muguna’s absence comes at a challenging time for the Harambee Stars. The player recently displayed his skill by netting a goal for Kenya Police during a mid-week clash against Mathare United.
The injury thus comes as a blow to both his club and the national team, which was counting on his experience and flair as they head into the high-stakes CHAN qualifiers.

With Muguna out, the FKF moved swiftly to name Clifford Otieno of Nairobi City Stars as his replacement.
Otieno, who has shown consistency and adaptability in the midfield for Nairobi City Stars, will join the traveling squad to South Sudan and is expected to help fill the gap left by Muguna.
The team departed for South Sudan on Friday ahead of the first leg of the CHAN CECAFA qualifier match, scheduled for Sunday, October 27, at Juba International Stadium.

Kenya drop four places on FIFA rankings after Harambee Stars' abysmal outing in October
Kenya's Harambee Stars dropped in the latest FIFA rankings following defeats in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, while Morocco remains the top-ranked African nation.
The second leg is set for Sunday, November 3, at 4 PM EAT at Mandela National Stadium in Uganda.
A win over South Sudan will advance them to the final phase of the qualifiers, where they will face either Djibouti or Rwanda.
The final phase of the qualifiers will be held from December 20-27, and it will determine which teams will join the co-host nations Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania in the 2024 CHAN tournament.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has made history this year by awarding hosting rights to three East African nations, increasing regional representation in the tournament and boosting CECAFA’s presence in the competition.
