Kenyan stars Elvis Rupia and Duke Abuya have called on their new Tanzanian club not to lose their momentum after starting with goals on their league debut.

Kenyan Stars Elvis Rupia and Duke Abuya have rallied their new club Ihefu SC to build on Monday’s win and secure an impressive finish to the season in the Tanzanian league.

Rupia and Abuya were among three Kenyan players, alongside Joash Onyango, who were offloaded by Singida Fountain Gate in the January transfer window, and all found refuge at Ihefu.

The two have wasted no time in making themselves comfortable at the Mbeya-based club as they were on target in their first match for the club, helping them to a 3-2 win against Mtibwa Sugar on Monday.

It was just the fourth league win for the club who are 11th on the 16-team log with 16 points but there is hope that the big hitters who arrived in January will spur them up the table.

“Hi Ihefu, ushindi muhimu (victory is important). Let’s go guys, let’s go,” the two rallied fans following the win.

Abuya opened the scoring after 15 minutes before Marouf Tchakei made it 2-0 in the 34th minute but Kassim Shabani reduced the arrears for the home team just before halftime.

Mtibwa would equalise just two minutes after the break when Juma Luizio found the target but Ihefu had the last laugh as Rupia netted the winner in the 72nd minute, opening his account for his new club.

The two Kenyans had been on fire for Singida before their surprising sale to Ihefu but they seem to be enjoying life at their new club already, given the good start.

Ihefu will hope that their midseason signings, who include six players from Singida, will help them push for a top 10 finish after which their ambitions could be bigger next season.
