Atalanta came back to win against Empoli, cancelling out Tyrone Ebuehi's opener.
Atalanta dominated from start to finish, but it was Empoli who went ahead first. The host turned on the heat in the second half and blew past their opponents to win 2-1.
Atalanta hosted Empoli at the Gewiss Arena, and despite falling behind to a Tyrone Ebuehi goal, the hosts fought back to claim all three points.
Tyrone Ebuehi gave Empoli the lead in the 44th minute of the game, but a Marten de Roon strike in the 58th minute pulled the hosts level. The game looked headed for a draw before a Rasmus Winther Hojlund strike in the 86th minute won the game for Atalanta.
How it happened
Atalanta came into the game without a win in four, and they started like a team determined to turn their fortunes around.
The hosts controlled the game but lacked clear ideas in front of goal. They will be punished for their inefficiency soon when a rebound fell kindly into the path of Ebuehi, who finished brilliantly from close range.
Empoli came close to doubling their advantage at the start of the second-half but fell short due to poor finishing.
Atalanta regained their control and finally got a well-earned goal in the game, with Marten de Roon powering a header past Samuele Perisan.
The hosts turned on the heat in the closing stages, bringing on Ademola Lookman, Jeremy Boga, and the eventual match winner Hojlund with less than 15 minutes to go.
They were rewarded for their adventures when the Dane finished from close range.
The Nigerians on show
Nigeria international Tyrone Ebuehi, who was not part of the players called up by Jose Peseiro for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers, had a solid game, including scoring his second goal of the season.
He also made three clearances, blocked two shots, and completed a tackle, playing the entire duration of the encounter.
Ademola Lookman, whose form has since waned, as his goals have dried up, started from the bench and was introduced in the 76th minute of the game.
He was a contributor to Atalanta's late flurry of attacks that helped them earn maximum points.
Lookman had an opportunity to end his six-game goal drought, but he missed the big chance, extending his run of blanks to seven games.
