One year after his arrest, Sunderland youngster Jack Diamond appeared in court and got charged with rape and sexual assault.
Diamond was arrested in May last year after an alleged attack in Washington, Tyne, and Wear, before making a court appearance on Friday at the South Tyneside Magistrates' Court.
He was only allowed to utter out his name and address in court by the magistrate.
According to the Sun, the suspected sexual offenses are against a 16 and over female, whose name remained discreet.
At the time of his arrest, Diamond was at League One outfit Lincoln City on loan, but they immediately terminated his contract.
His parent club, Sunderland, suspended him in March this year to allow for smooth court proceedings.
A spokesman to the player, who in March, was quoted by the Daily Mail revealed; "Jack Diamond strenuously denies the allegations which have been made against him."
"Jack is looking forward to clearing his name in court," the spokesman added.
Diamond, who was released on unconditional bail, will make his next court appearance on June 02nd, 2023, at the Newcastle Crown Court.
