Preliminary investigations have revealed what caused the fatal accident involving ex-Zambia captain Rainford Kalaba.
A woman who was driving the vehicle involved in a fatal accident that critically injured former Zambia national team captain Reinford Kalaba has been identified as Charlene Mkandawire.
The tragic incident occurred when Mkandawire, driving an unregistered Mercedes Benz, allegedly attempted an improper overtaking maneuver, colliding head-on with a Howo truck on a busy highway.

The former Chipolopolo midfielder is in critical condition after his car crashed head-on with a truck in Lusaka on Saturday.
The accident, which took place under clear skies led to immediate and severe consequences.
Zambia Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga detailed the sequence of events.
"Preliminary investigations suggest that the Mercedes Benz, driven by Ms. Mkandawire from south to north, attempted to overtake another vehicle and crashed into an oncoming truck," he said.

Rainford Kalaba, the passenger in Mkandawire’s car, was critically injured and rushed to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka.
Currently in the Intensive Care Unit, his condition remains precarious. Reuben Kamanga, Vice President and General Secretary of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), has been vocal about the impact of the accident on the community and Kalaba’s significance in Zambian football.
"Rainford Kalaba has been a towering figure in Zambian and African football. This tragedy has deeply affected us all. We urge the football community and the nation to join us in prayer for his swift and complete recovery," Kamanga stated during a press briefing at UTH.
