Cyriel Dessers tried to spark a late comeback but it wasn't to be for Cremonese who lost 3-2 to Monza.
Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers scored his third Serie A goal of the season for Cremonese in a 3-2 defeat at home to Monza.
Dessers scored in the 83rd minute to make it 3-2 to the home side and offer hope of an unlikely comeback from three goals down.
The goal is his third in 16 Serie A games for Cremonese and signalled an end to his six-game goal drought.
Cyriel Dessers on the scoresheet
Dessers raced onto a flicked header by Daniel Ciofani which sent him to a wide area in the box but the Nigerian was still able to find a finish.
The Super Eagles striker latched onto the ball and fired a first-time bouncing shot through the legs of Michele Di Gregorio in the Monza goal.
That was Dessers' first goal in six games, a run dating back to October 2022 when he scored for Cremonese in a 2-2 draw against Spezia.
Cremonese 2-3 Monza
Italian midfielder Patrick Ciurria opened the scoring after just eight minutes when he reacted fastest to poke the ball in from close range.
Things then got worse for the home side, who found themselves two goals behind inside 20 minutes, after VAR awarded a penalty to Monza for a foul inside the penalty area. which Gianluca Caprari stepped up to confidently dispatch.
Caprari secured his brace after being set up by Andrea Petagna in the 55th minute to effectively win the game even though Cremonese rallied late on.
Ciofani pulled one back for the hosts in the 67th minute and then assisted Dessers for the second in the 83rd minute but it was too little too late for Cremonese who remain the only winless team in Serie A this season.
