Cyriel Dessers scored a brace but it did not prevent Cremonese from suffering a 3-2 defeat.
Sassuolo hit their visitors twice to put them two goals behind, but a Cyriel Dessers brace brought Cremonese back into the game, only for them to suffer a late winner for Nedim Bahrami to lose 3-2.
I Neroverdi hosted Cremonese at their Mapei Stadium as they looked to push up the table. The home side gained a healthy lead but let it slip; however, they managed to grab a late winner, pushing themselves up to 13th on the table, while Cremonese missed the chance to gain an additional point on the board in their fight to stave off relegation.
How it happened
Man on fire Armand Lauriente fired Sassuolo ahead from a free-kick just outside the box in the 26th minute of the game, riffling the ball into the roof of the net. Lauriente turned provider for the second, finding Davide Frattesi in space, who in turn shot into the right post.
Dessers started I Grigiorossi's comeback in the 62nd minute of the game, pouncing on what proved to be a costly mistake by Sassuolo's backline before burying the ball into the back of the net from the edge of the box.
The Nigeria international pulled the game level in the 83rd minute of the game, connecting to a Marco Carnesecchi cross to knock the ball into the back of the net.
Cremonese thought they had earned themselves a point, but they did not manage to hold on, with Armand Lauriente involved again, delivering an effective cross into the box for Bajrami, who finished expertly.
