Dekedaha and Mbabane Swallows secured crucial wins in their opening CAF Champions League matches, setting up promising campaign

Somalia Premier League giants Dekedaha kicked their first preliminary round of the 2024/2025 CAF Champions League on a positive note, securing a decisive 2-0 victory against Djibouti's Arta Solar.

The match, which unfolded in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, saw Dekedaha assert their dominance early on with two first-half goals that put them in a commanding position for the return leg.

Adam Haggio opened the scoring, and Idris Bilal doubled the advantage, marking a successful start to their campaign.

The victory sets up Dekedaha nicely for a challenging matchup against Esperance de Tunis in the next round, should they maintain their lead in the second leg.

Meanwhile, in South Africa, Mbabane Swallows of Eswatini also made headlines with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Mozambique's Ferroviario da Beira at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Tshwane.

The game's lone goal came from Karim Madja early in the second half, giving the Swallows a slender but crucial advantage as they head into the second leg in Maputo.

The Swallows will need to be at their best to fend off Ferroviario da Beira in the return game and set up a second round tie against South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns.

In another closely contested match, Milo FC of Guinea and Mauritania’s FC Nouadhibou played out a goalless draw in Bamako, Mali.

The stalemate leaves everything to play for in the second leg, with both teams still in contention to advance.

The excitement of the CAF Champions League qualifiers continues to build, with more matches scheduled for the weekend.

Notably, Tanzania’s Young Africans will face off against Burundi’s Vital’O, and Niger’s ASGNN is set to host Moroccan heavyweights Raja Casablanca.
