Dean Smith has been officially confirmed as the new manager of Leicester City until the end of the season after agreeing a deal earlier today.

The Foxes, who are presently 19th in the Premier League and two points from safety, will have John Terry and Craig Shakespeare on their coaching staff in addition to the interim manager.

Following Norwich's Christmas Day loss to Luton Town, Dean Smith was fired by Norwich and has not been called upon by any club. Leicester City contacted Dean Smith for the new manager position and have come to an agreement for Smith to serve as manager through the end of the current campaign.

Leicester who are currently 19th in the Premier League table have agreed a contract with all three on a short-term deal that will keep them till the end of the season. The appointment of Dean Smith has now been confirmed by the club.

When Leicester won the Premier League in 2016, Shakespeare was a member of Claudio Ranieri's coaching staff. Once the Italian was fired a year later, Shakespeare took over as manager.

Once Brendan Rodgers left Leicester at the beginning of the month, Jesse Marsch was contacted by the club about a prospective contract to take over as manager. Before deciding to move forward with Smith, Leicester had discussed the opening at the King Power Stadium with a number of contenders, including the American.

Leicester makes swift decision after two losses

After four years in charge, Rodgers led Leicester to their first-ever FA Cup victory in 2021 after previously leading the team to consecutive fifth-place finishes.

However, he was sacked at the beginning of the month and since then Leicester has gone on to lose two Premier League games, which has hastened their decision. They have appointed a temporary manager to lead them through the remainder of the season and keep them from being relegated.

On Saturday, Leicester suffered a loss at home to Bournemouth, another team facing relegation. Their next match is an away game against champions Manchester City.
