Dani Alves could finally know his fate as he remains in detention over a sexual assault case that happened late last year.
The Brazilian footballer remains in the Brians II prison awaiting trial having been accused of sexually assaulting a 23-year-old woman on the night of December 30 at the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona.
Alves who has already attended an appeal hearing days ago, saw his plea for temporary release dismissed by the magistrates of the third section of the Barcelona court, ultimately condemning him to remain in prison until his trial date.

Alves could soon know what the future holds for him following latest reports in Spain.
Spanish publication, El Mundo, reports that his trial is expected to be held this year, as the Barcelona court indicated the investigation is about to end, after numerous statements from the former Barcelona defender himself, the victim, the friend who accompanied him, the friends of the young woman as well as the staff of the nightclub itself.

However, the Barcelona court itself pointed out that "even the DNA analysis that normally delays the procedures for crimes of sexual violence have been practiced", where it was confirmed that the traces and traces of semen found on the victim's body, her dress and in the sink itself, match the DNA of the footballer.
"Therefore, it is foreseeable – and desirable – that in a short period of time, the investigation is completed, and the summary concluded, so that the provisional detention can be maintained for a reasonable period of time, without reaching the legally foreseen maximums," a statement via the report adds.
But regarding the potential prison sentence for Alves, the Prosecutor's Office said that it faces "a crime of sexual assault with penetration of article 179 of the Criminal Code that provides for a penalty between four and 12 years in prison", although judicial sources also ensure that the alleged abuse of authority will be taken into account by forcing the victim.
If that happens, the former Pumas defender could face a sentence of between eight and 10 years in prison, as judicial sources explained to the cited media.

The 39-year-old former Barcelona defender was arrested for alleged sexual assault on a 23-year-old lady at a Barcelona night club.
Alves was taken into custody after the allegation was made against him on December 30, 2022.
He was then taken to the Ciutat de la Justicia, where he attended a court hearing.
He was sent to jail by the court without bail, while an investigation continues on the case.
