The ICT secretary has revealed plans to Gor Mahia to build a state-of-the-art sports complex months after club chairman Ambrose Rachier said the club is finalising paperwork for land acquisition.

Eliud Owalo, Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy, has announced a collaborative initiative with Gor Mahia's management to develop a comprehensive sports complex for the 21-time league champions.

This long-term project aims to construct a facility that includes a clubhouse, training pitch, fitness center, and various sports amenities.

In the short term, the focus is on preparing for continental football to ensure a strong performance on the international stage, with the midterm goal of clinching a CAF competition title.

Speaking at St. Sebastian Park in Muranga following Gor Mahia's 3-0 victory over Muhoroni Youth, Owalo emphasized the importance of immediate preparations for upcoming CAF competitions.

"Our long-term project, in conjunction with the office, is to build a complex. We will get land, construct a training pitch, and have a fitness center, among other sports amenities," Owalo revealed.

He stressed that while winning the league is commendable, the team must now set its sights on greater achievements.

"I want to congratulate the team for winning the league one more time. However, this is now routine for us, and we should strive for even greater success by winning the continental championship. We need to start preparing for CAF competitions immediately in order to have a better chance of competing."

A critical aspect of these preparations includes bolstering the team with quality signings during the transfer window.

"We're looking forward to working with the office to beef up the team so that it can be formidable enough for the continental championship, which should start immediately," Owalo added.

Earlier in the season, Owalo's donation of a bus to Gor Mahia significantly improved the team's logistics, contributing to their successful campaign.

He noted that resolving the transport issue was a key factor in the team's improved performance.

This season, Gor Mahia will represent Kenya in the CAF Champions League, aiming to deliver their best performances.

However, their participation was initially jeopardized by a CAF ban due to club licensing violations, specifically the failure to compensate former players.

Addressing this issue, Owalo, a passionate supporter of Gor Mahia and local sports, is committed to ensuring compliance and strengthening the team's prospects.

As the deputy patron of Gor Mahia, Owalo's dedication to the club and his broader vision for its future highlight his commitment to fostering local sports and achieving new heights for the team.

The proposed sports complex and immediate focus on CAF competition preparations underscore a strategic approach to elevating Gor Mahia's status both domestically and internationally.

This long-term project aims to construct a facility that includes a clubhouse, training pitch, fitness center, and various sports amenities.
