A high-ranking official's compassionate visit to a bereaved member of the Gor Mahia football club warms hearts and strengthens bonds.

Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy, Eliud Owalo has paid a visit to Gor Mahia midfielder Austin Odhiambo, who is quietly mourning the loss of his beloved son.

While the family and the club have chosen to keep this painful matter out of the media spotlight, Owalo's visit served as a moment of solidarity and support for the grieving footballer.

"Moments ago, I paid a visit to Gor Mahia attacking Midfielder, Austin Odhiambo, at his Lucky Summer residence, in Nairobi, to condole with him, following the demise of his son," shared CS Eliud Owalo in a compassionate gesture of support.

"At this moment of grief, I join the rest of the K'Ogalo fraternity in consoling Austin's family and praying for them. May God wipe their tears and give them the fortitude to bear the loss."

Austin Odhiambo's journey to football stardom is a testament to his resilience and dedication.

Hailing from Baba Dogo, in the South East of Nairobi, Odhiambo's talent was scouted by AFC Leopards in 2016, under the guidance of then AFC Cubs coach Bonface Ambani.

His remarkable skills shone brightly during the KPL under-20 football tournament held at the Camp Toyoyo grounds in Jericho Estate, Nairobi.

One of the highlights of his early career was his dynamic partnership with Haron Nyakha and Vincent Oburu, which left fans in awe during his time at Leopards. However, after failing to secure a promotion to the senior team, he faced a period of uncertainty. It was Ambani who offered him a lifeline, providing him with a second chance at the Cubs.

Odhiambo's outstanding performance soon earned him his first contract with Leopards in late 2017.

His debut in top-flight football came in 2018, where he quickly asserted his authority, particularly following the departure of Whyvone Isuza.

His exceptional skills did not go unnoticed, and he soon received a call-up to the National Football team, Harambee Stars, marking the beginning of his meteoric rise to stardom.

In October 2021, Austin Odhiambo made a significant move by joining Gor Mahia. Since then, he has proven to be a pivotal player for the club, contributing to their successful campaign in winning the Football Kenya Federation Premier League last season.
