Cremonese will be without one of their Nigerian strikers who is reportedly being rested for the Coppa Italia quarter-final game against Napoli.
Cremonese are set to visit Napoli in the quarter-final of the Coppa Italia on Tuesday night but they will have to do so without Cyriel Dessers.
The Super Eagles striker scored in the 3-2 home defeat to Monza last weekend but has reportedly not travelled with the team for this one.
Reports indicate that Dessers is being rested as a precautionary measure which is also an indication that Cremonese prioritises the league over the cup this season.
Cyriel Dessers out of Coppa Italia clash with Napoli
According to a report by Fantacalcio, the Nigerian striker has not travelled with the Cremonese squad for this game.
Dessers is said to not be “at his best after the match against Monza” despite scoring in that game which led to him being rested.
The report indicates that Dessers’ issue “shouldn't be a real physical problem” but Cremonese coach Massimiliano Alvininhas opted to rest him in order to not aggravate the issue.
His condition will be re-evaluated ahead of the next league game against Bologna as he remains an important player for the team.
Dessers’ three Serie A goals in 16 games this season is the joint-most by any Cremonese player along with Daniel Ciofani and fellow Nigerian striker David Okereke.
Nothing has been said about Okereke though who should be available when Cremonese square up against Napoli.
