COSAFA Cup: Why Kenya’s Emerging Stars will be supporting Seychelles & Lesotho on Wednesday

Kenya will be hoping that Seychelles or Lesotho will do them a big favour on Wednesday as they wait to learn their COSAFA Cup fate.

Kenya’s Emerging Stars will be hoping that either Namibia or Angola fail to win on Wednesday for them to secure a semi-final place at the COSAFA Cup.

Kenya are the best ranked second placed team after winning two matches to stay on six points from Group B but that will all change if both Angola and Namibia win on Wednesday.

Namibia and Angola are both tied on four points heading into their final group match where they are set to face Seychelles and Lesotho respectively and victory would take both to seven points.

That would see one of them claim the one remaining slot in the semi-final to join the three group winners in the final four at the tournament while eliminating Kenya.

It therefore means Kenya will be praying for favours from Seychelles and Lesotho. Past results, do not however, give the East Africans encouragement since both teams have lost one and drawn another of their two games.

Kenya can therefore hope that at least one of the two teams will draw so that they can make it through.

Ken Odhiambo’s men had started the tournament well when they beat holders Zambia 2-0 but suffered a similar defeat to Comoros on Sunday to leave them in a difficult position.

They, however, revived their hopes on Tuesday when they beat Zimbabwe 2-0 to eliminate the Warriors while Comoros secured top spot in the group after overcoming Zambia 1-0.

Kenya are among the invited teams at the tournament which has attracted just 12 teams where the three group winners plus the best second ranked team make it to the semi-final.

The squad is made up of young players who are being given an opportunity to gauge their preparedness for a place in the senior side Harambee Stars.
