The Waziri Super Cup 2024 edition kicked off in Webuye on October 10, marking the beginning of a three-month football extravaganza that promises to be a scouting hub for untapped talent.

Speaking to Pulse Sports, the tournament founder Salim Waziri expressed his excitement for the tournament's impact.

"The tournament has already changed the lives of many young people. For example, some participants received scholarships to continue their studies and new business initiatives have also been launched," he said.

Held across four venues in Bungoma County, including Sudi Stadium, Webuye Pan Paper Ilala Stadium, Webuye D.E.B Primary School the Waziri Super Cup has already ignited local interest.

The tournament’s rich prize pool, with Ksh50,000 for the football champions, Ksh30,000 for the runners-up, and Ksh20,000 for the third-placed team, has raised the stakes for all teams involved.

The first matches, played at the Webuye D.E.B Grounds, delivered thrilling action, with Webuye Doctors triumphing over Police FC in a nail-biting match that ended 3-2 after penalties.

In another encounter, Kingsland FC and Malaha FC played out a tense 0-0 draw, while Compel FC secured a dominant 3-0 win over Nzoia FC, sending a clear message of their intent in the competition.

This year’s Waziri Super Cup is not limited to football alone.

The tournament has expanded its reach to other sports, with rugby, basketball, and volleyball teams set to join the fray.
