Clifton Miheso’s return to AFC Leopards had some fans questioning his signing but statistics show that the experienced attacker is slowly silencing his doubters.

AFC Leopards winger Clifton Miheso is becoming a key man for the club following his return to the club at the start of this season.

Miheso returned to Ingwe following a two-year stint at Kenya Police and after a slow start, he has raised the bar to become the assist king in the FKF Premier League so far.

The former Gor Mahia and Thika United man might not have scored as often as some would have wished but he has replaced the lack of goals with creating them.

Miheso so far has seven assists in the league, two more than Chris Opondo of Bidco United, Darius Msagha of Sofapaka, Tusker trio of Shafan Siwa, Eric Kapaito and Levin Joseph, Eston Esiye of Kakamega Homeboyz, Shabana youngster Ezekiel Omuri and Robinson Asenwa of Nairobi City Stars, who all are tied on five.

The Leopards winger has largely been effective on set-pieces where his precise corners and freekicks have been converted by team-mates and he is also good at delivering pin-point crosses.

Blessed with pace and power, the left-footed attacker has been causing opposition defences problems on the right hand of Leopards’ attack and were it not for some poor finishing, he would have more than the one goal he has managed so far.

His importance to the side has become even more visible at the start of 2024 where Ingwe have put together an impressive string of five straight wins which have lifted them up to eighth place on the table, after staying around the relegation zone for the entire period of the first leg.

With Ingwe missing a creative midfielder who would help them play through the lines in the first half of the season, Miheso has stepped up to the plate, delivering from the wings, and also drops into the No.10 role on certain occasions.

Leopards will go in search of a sixth straight victory against Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu Stadium this weekend and the experienced Miheso is among the players coach Tomas Trucha will be relying on once again.
