Talented Kenyan international reflects on season and sends message to critics amid transfer speculation.

AFC Leopards midfielder Cliff Nyakeya has fueled speculation about his potential move to Shabana as he issued a statement on Wednesday reflecting on his time with the club.

The Kenyan international has been a crucial player for Patrick Aussems' team, which finished seventh in the recently concluded 2022/2023 FKF Premier League season.

In his statement, Nyakeya acknowledged the challenges faced throughout the season, citing a slow start, intermittent success, and overall inconsistency.

"A tough season it has been. We had a slow start, picked up momentum at some point, but inconsistency followed," expressed Nyakeya.

The 27-year-old further extended his gratitude to the supporters who stood by the team despite their shortcomings before addressing the critics, urging them to channel their negativity constructively.

"For those who criticized us, we take it positively. But for those who made it a tribal matter, it's a shame on you," he added.

Despite acknowledging his personal analysis and admitting areas where improvement could have been made, Nyakeya defended his commitment to AFC Leopards.

"Every time I was given an opportunity to represent AFC Leopards throughout the season, I gave it my all," he affirmed, asserting his dedication to the team.

Earlier in May, Nyakeya staged a boycott due to unpaid signing fees, which seemed to have strained his relationship with coach Aussems.

It was reported that Aussems vowed not to field the player again under his leadership.

Nyakeya joined AFC Leopards in February 2022 from Wazito FC and has previously showcased his talent at clubs such as Gor Mahia youth team, Mathare United, and FC Masr in Egypt.

Recent reports suggest that Shabana, a newly promoted side in the FKF Premier League, has expressed interest in acquiring Nyakeya's services.

The speedy winger has caught the attention of the Shabana management, who hopes to secure his signature for the upcoming season.

As Nyakeya's future hangs in the balance, AFC Leopards fans eagerly await an official statement from the club regarding the midfielder's potential transfer.

The Leopards will be keen to retain their valuable asset, but the allure of a new challenge at Shabana may prove tempting for the talented player.
