French coach Claude Le Roy would be honored if he gets another chance to mentor the Togo national team.

The 75-year-old led the Sparrow Hawks to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon but could not secure any silverware with the team before his departure in April 2021.

Currently unattached, Le Roy admits he will be keen to return to work with Togo, who he served as head coach for six years.

Speaking to New World TV on Tuesday, Le Roy declared his ambition to end the Sparrow Hawks trophy drought in the future.

“I had proposals to come back elsewhere. Even there, I felt like coming back again to some countries. But given the state of health of my wife, it was not possible. I think in life you should never say never. Do not flout the future, do not insult the future,” said Le Loy.

Currently, Togo are under Portuguese manager Paulo Duarte who succeeded Le Roy in May 2021.

Reports from Lome indicate that the Togo Football Federation are set to announce the departure of Duarte as they are mathematically out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Le Roy resigned as Togo coach after the West African nation failed to qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Sparrow Hawks were among the favorites to make the group that hand Kenya, Comoros and Egypt but failed to win a single match in the qualifiers.

Le Roy is remembered in Africa for winning the 1998 Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon and has only failed to reach the quarter-finals thrice.

Besides Togo and Cameroon, Le Roy has coached Senegal, Ghana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Togo currently sits at the bottom of Group B of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with two points after their four matches against Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, and Eswatini.
