Nairobi City Stars' head coach Nicholas Muyoti criticised his team's performance and emphasised the need for improvement after a 4-1 loss to Gor Mahia.

Nairobi City Stars head coach Nicholas Muyoti did not mince words as he dissected his team's disappointing 4-1 loss to Gor Mahia in a league clash on Sunday.

The match saw Benson Omala score a brace, with Rooney Onyango and Austin Odhiambo securing the victory for Gor Mahia.

While City Stars managed to score a consolation goal through Dennis Oalo, their inability to capitalise on several scoring opportunities left a bitter taste in their coach's mouth.

Muyoti, visibly disheartened by his team's performance, minced no words when he addressed the media in a post-match press conference.

"Schoolboy mistakes made us concede the goals in the first half. We weren't passing the ball well, we weren't commanding the game, and our communication was lacking. There were a lot of things that didn't go right," he lamented.

City Stars' roster largely comprises young talents who are experiencing this level of competition for the first time.

Muyoti emphasized the need for patience, stating that his charges will require some time to get on track in their quest to secure positive results in their upcoming matches.

"Most of the boys are young and experiencing this stage for the first time. It will take some time, but we will make sure they are in the best state of mind and playing at the level we expect,” he added.

The former Kenya international acknowledged the fragile confidence among his players, necessitating a halftime pep talk that saw them enter the second half defensively strong, although they ended up conceding a fourth goal.

"Our confidence wasn't good, and we had to talk to them at halftime. They at least improved in the second half," he concluded, hinting at a possible turning point in the team's performance.

With the painful defeat still fresh in their minds, Nairobi City Stars will shift their focus to their upcoming league match against Nzoia Sugar.

The loss to Gor Mahia serves as a valuable learning experience for City Stars, a team still finding its footing in the 2023/2024 season.

Under the guidance of Muyoti, the squad hopes to mature and register positive results in their upcoming fixtures.
