Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has apologised for his role in the viral clip making the rounds in which he and some of his Argentina teammates used derogatory language in a song used to mock the diversity of the French national team.

As Pulse Sports reported, Enzo Fernandez shared a video on his Instagram capturing the merriment of the Albiceleste squad in their team bus following their Copa America triumph over Colombia.

The Argentine star has reportedly drawn the ire of his Chelsea teammates after Copa America celebrations
The players drowned in euphoria and sang at the top of their voices, praising their achievements. However, an excerpt from the lyrics of their song raised eyebrows, as it contained offensive remarks.
Enzo and his teammates mocked the African heritage of some French players with the following lyrics: “They play for France, but they are from Angola. His mother is Nigerian, his father is Cameroonian. But on the passport: French.”
The clip has received overwhelming backlash from the football community. Also, some of his Chelsea teammates of French nationality and African heritage have spoken out against the clip. Enzo Fernandez has now come out to apologise for his involvement.
What Enzo Fernandez said
Using the tool with which he broadcasted his transgression, Instagram, Enzo has taken to the social media platform to share his apology.
“I want to apologise sincerely for a video posted on my Instagram channel during the national team celebrations,” Enzo pleaded.
“The song includes highly offensive language and there is absolutely no excuse for these words.
“I stand against discrimination in all forms and apologise for getting caught up in the euphoria of our Copa America celebrations.
“That video, that moment, those words do not reflect my beliefs or my character. I am truly sorry.”
