The Blues were disgraced in Switzerland by the much smaller side but kept their dignity by securing a ticket to the main stages of the Conference League

Premier League giants Chelsea managed to sneak into the group phase of the UEFA Europa Conference League despite losing the second leg of their play-off against Servette.

Chelsea were made to endure torturous moments during their Conference League play-off second leg against the Swiss side, as they did just enough for a win on aggregate after losing 2-1 in Switzerland.

Christopher Nkunku scored Chelsea’s only goal of the night from the penalty spot to give the Blues a 1-0 lead, but goals from Jeremy Guillemenot and Enzo Crivelli turned the match in Servette’s favour and nearly took the tie to extra time.

The Blues were able to qualify on aggregate despite the loss, thanks to a 2-0 advantage from the first leg.

How it happened

Chelsea started on the front foot and took the lead early in the first half and were rewarded for their enterprise when they were awarded a penalty.

Christopher Nkunku stepped up and converted to give Chelsea a 1-0 lead, with his second goal for the Blues this season.

Nkunk’s early penalty appeared to put Chelsea in control, extending their aggregate lead to 3-0. However, Jeremy Guillemeno scored before halftime, and Enzo Crivelli's header with 20 minutes left set up a tense finish as Chelsea faced intense pressure in the closing minutes.

Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson had a goal disallowed for offside, and Cole Palmer struck the bar and the Blues managed to hold on, edging through with a 3-2 aggregate win.
