The Blues have made an approach for the former Manchester United and Arsenal target with Osimhen watching on

As the transfer window draws to a close, Chelsea are reportedly making a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney, but reports also indicate that the Blues might be using this approach as a tactic to pressure Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen into lowering his wage demands in a separate negotiation.

Chelsea enter race for Ivan Toney

Chelsea are hoping to snatch Brentford’s Ivan Toney, who was previously linked with a move to Saudi Arabia after reports suggested that Al-Ahli were making significant progress in negotiations with the Bees.

Toney, valued at around £50 million despite having less than a year left on his contract, has emerged as a serious target for the Blues and Chelsea's interest in the England international could be seen as a potential alternative to their pursuit of Napoli's hitman Osimhen.

However, some sources speculate that the Toney move might be a smokescreen to pressure Osimhen into reconsidering his wage demands.

Osimhen's future in limbo as Chelsea ramp up pursuit

The Nigerian striker has been a long-term target for Chelsea, but negotiations have reportedly stalled due to the Nigerian striker's substantial wage demands, which are believed to be around £500,000 per week.

Chelsea have explored the possibility of a loan deal for Osimhen, but Napoli have been adamant about securing a permanent transfer for the Super Eagles star.

With Chelsea's attention now shifting to Toney, Osimhen may be forced to reconsider his position, as he does not have many other options in the transfer window, which shuts in just three days.

Chelsea are running out of time to seal a deal for a new striker, and if Osimhen does not lower his wage demands, he could find himself staying at Napoli until at least January.

It remains to be seen whether Osimhen will buckle to Chelsea’s demands or if the Blues will be forced to go for their alternative option in Toney with time running out.
